Mexico Flights and Tour Arrangements

Mexico flights are generally available that can drop off tourists at or very near the most popular destinations. There are some tourists, however, who may see an opportunity to save a few dollars by getting off at an airport a long way from their destination and driving or bussing the rest of the way. This can quickly become a huge headache.

Mexico City is sometimes chosen as this destination. This is one of the largest cities in the Western Hemisphere and, thus, being let off one’s plane in this city may be a bit cheaper than being let off at a smaller airport nearer one’s destination. Transportation within the city, however, is likely to be far more difficult than the inexperienced are prepared to handle and may constitute a hassle that makes the savings not at all worth it. Once one gets on the country roads, things may get even more difficult.

Mexico is huge. Travelling from one of the major cities to one of the popular tourist destinations may well take the better part of a day or, in some cases, a couple of days. The road conditions in this country are not famous for being excellent, either. In most cases, it will end up being cheaper to book a flight to a Mexico airport near one’s destination than it will be to do a driving tour of the country. The driving rules in this nation are slightly different than in the US, as well, which can be confusing to tourists.

The one exception to this is the Baja Peninsula. This area is popular with those who choose to visit Mexico without flights involved. Driving down the coast is fairly easy and the roads are generally in decent repair. One should bring along an emergency kit, however. Services in Mexico tend to be spotty compared to the US and one may need to change their own tire rather than call a tow truck and, even if help is on the way, one may have to wait quite a while before it arrives. Remember to bring food and water and to be prepared for any roadside emergency when driving through this country.
